[ntcir:258] Reminder: CFP Special Issue on Information Compilation

Call for Papers:

Special issue on Journal of JSAI (Japanese Society for Artificial
Intelligence)

"Information Compilation: fundamental technologies and their possibilities"

It is important for utilizing information to select only useful one
from various information and to review and understand its content
quickly. Such importance has increased significantly as we are lately
surrounded by huge amount of information of several media such as one
in WWW. Information compilation is fundamental technologies that help
this important activities, and aims to compile various information
intelligently in order to enhance users' understanding of the
information and to help users to access to the information.

Information compilation distinguished by its two characteristics. The
first is its cross-modality. Information compilation handles as its
input various information in the real world extending across various
modes, media and genres. It also utilizes multimedia presentation as
its output, in which non-linguistic information such as visual one and
linguistic information are coordinated closely. Based on these
cross-modalities, information compilation is expected to lead a new
field of technologies that is founded on a creative fusion of natural
language processing and information visualization. The second is its
continuousness in supporting all aspects of information utilization.
It realizes support of users' reviewing and understanding information
and support of users' information access seamlessly, integrating
several technologies conventionally distinguished as summarization and
as information access interface, and those as informative and as
indicative even in the summarization. Through this integration, it
enables to support users throughout overall process of information
utilization, which covers from reviewing and understanding a chunk of
information as a whole to accessing individual information in it.

The aim of the special issue is to solicit and publish papers that are
concerned to potential components of the information compilation
technologies. As the first special issue on information compilation,
it welcomes not only well-established and evaluated research results
but also preliminary reports of currently developing themes and
visionary works that could enlarge the concept of information
compilation. It is convincing that this issue should make widely
known the dawn of the new technologies.
