Akihiro Sugimoto

Akihiro Sugimoto received his B.S, M.S, and Dr. Eng. degrees in mathematical engineering from the University of Tokyo in 1987, 1989, and 1996, respectively. He joinedHitachi Advanced Research Laboratory in 1989, and then temporally moved to Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute International (ATR), Japan in 1991, where he worked for Auditory and Visual Perception Labs. and for Human Information Processing Labs. In 1995, he returned to Hitachi Advanced Research Laboratory where he lead a project on contect-based image retrieval supported by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry in Japan. In 1999, he moved to Kyoto University as a lecturer at the graduate school of Informatics. Since 2002, he has worked for the National Institute of Informatics, Japan, where he is currently a full professor. From 2006 to 2007, he was a visiting professor at ESIEE, France.

He is interested in mathematical methods in engineering. In particular, his current main research interests include discrete mathematics, optimization algorithm, vision geometry, and modeling of human vision.

He is the author or co-author of more than 100 peer-reviewed journal/international conference papers. He is a regular reviewer of international conferences/journals in computer vision. He has also served several international conferences. He was a general co-chair of Pacific-Rim Symposium on Image and Video Technology(PSIVT) in 2009 and 2010, a general co-chair of Asian Conference on Computer Vision(ACCV) in 2012, a program co-chair of ACCV2010, a tutorial co-chair of IEEE International Conference on Computer Vision(ICCV) in 2009, a industrial liaison co-chair of ICCV2011, a workshop co-chair of PSIVT2013. He received a Paper Award from the Information Processing Society in 2001. He is a member of IEEE, ACM.
