The primary gateway to Kyoto is Osaka's Kansai International Airport (KIX). If you, however, choose to arrive at Tokyo or any other city in Japan, you may also be able to fly into Osaka's domestic airport, Itami Airport (ITM) which is closer to Kyoto.

You may also take the Bullet train (Shin-Kan-Sen) directly to Kyoto from major cities. More information on the train travel can be found in Central Japan Railway Company's web site.
