------- Touching for Knowing Chemistry

HaptiChem

HaptiChem is a molecular model system using a haptic device called SPIDAR, which enables to move molecular structures in the 3D-space with virtually feeling attractive and repulsive inter-molecular force. The SPIDAR is a haptic device developed by Prof. M.Sato's Lab. in Tokyo Institute of Technology.

Current Version

We achieved robust design with the haptic device and implemented basic functions to display van der Waals molecular interaction between rare-gas atoms in the current version.

Applications to Chemical Education

HaptiChem is designed for also chemical education, and first pilot attempts of adopting it in a chemical education program of a high school have been actually started.
